The Promise requires support from foundations, businesses, and individuals to continue to fulfill our mission.

Since our launch in 2008, we have been successful in meeting the challenge of providing scholarships to thousands of urban youths and empowering them to envision and achieve a promising future. Over 70% of Promise Scholars are low-income and many are first-generation college students. The Pittsburgh Promise is committed to raising the required resources to fund students through the Class of 2028. IRA Donors – The Pittsburgh Promise is a charitable organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3), and further classified as a Type 1 supporting organization of The Pittsburgh Foundation under IRS Section 509(a)(3). Due to this subclassification, an IRA gift to The Pittsburgh Promise will not qualify as a charitable distribution. However, despite this nuance in the tax law, IRA gifts will qualify as a deductible charitable contribution. You may wish to consult with your tax advisor or IRA administrator regarding the proper tax treatment of your gift.
